Hi Guys,

Here is my monthly update for April and the early part of May.

I left you all last time just before EuroPro Qualifying School with the aim to obtain my full playing rights for this tour as well already having done so for the Alps Tour in 2014 season.

The events were:

1st Stage EuroPro Q School – Woldingham Golf Club

Final Stage EuroPro Q School – Frilford Heath Golf Club (Blue Course)

I entered the week feeling great and ready to work my way up the leaderboards throughout both stages of qualifying, however after some issues in my practice round the day before 1st Stage, my confidence took a big knock. Needless to say, I  went into the 1st Round fighting my swing and relying on my tournament experience to prevail. This lead to me needing to dig deep after a 74 (+3) after round 1. I did so,  posting a 69 (-2) in round 2 to finish T15th and comfortably make it through to Final Stage.

With 240 players making it into Final Stage of Q School and only Top 60 and ties making their full card, a solid performance was needed. There was more drama to come at Frilford Heath after I posted a 73 (+1) after round 1. I knew the cut would come at around 144 (Level Par) and after being +1 for the tournament with 3 holes left to play in my 2nd round, a birdie had to be found in order to make it. Thankfully I rolled in a 9fter on the 17th t0 do so and then hole another putt from 5ft on the last to shoot 71 (-1) and make the cut on the number at 144. A relatively stress free 71 (-1) on the 3rd and final round edged me into T56th for the tournament and I’m happy to report I have now obtained full playing rights on both the EuroPro and Alps Tour for 2014.

I have recently returned back from France after playing my first Alps Tour event as well as playing the first EuroPro event of the season at The Belfry a couple of weeks ago. Both tournaments have provided valuable learning experiences and although I missed both cuts, I was extremely close for the EuroPro missing by 1 shot and 2 people. France was also positive based on the fact I made 10 birdies in 36 holes. I simply need to work on not compounding inevitable mistakes and be confident in my ability moving forward.

Tournament Results:

The Matchroom Championship – The Belfry (Brabazon) = T52nd/156 – 74, 75

Open International de Rebetz  – Golf de Rebetz (France) = T68th/138 – 73, 74

My next two events are:

MAY 9th- 11th  = Gosser Open – Erzherzog GC, Graz, Austria

MAY 15th – 17th  = Colli Berici Open – Colli Berici GC, Asiago, Italy

I head off to Venice (Italy) on Wednesday 7th May where we will then make the trip up to Austria and travel back down for the Italian event the week after. I will draw upon the positives of the last two tournaments and look to start the week with a lot of confidence.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all my supporters and sponsors for all your help so far. I will continue to represent you and Castle Royle to the best of my ability both on and off the golf course.

I look forward to seeing some of you soon in the Charity Pro-Am at Castle Royle on the 26th May.

Until then, thanks for reading,

Tom
