Just an update as to how things have started after coming home from the USA. After enjoying the first week back, I had to hit the ground running after entering the Castle Royle Masters which was played on the 22nd May. I managed to squeeze in a couple of practice sessions which included 9 holes in the days leading up to the tournament and luckily the course hadn’t changed too much in my 9 month absence.
2013 Castle Royle Masters Champion – It has a nice ring to it!
I’m happy to report that with the help of my amazing caddy and girlfriend, I prevailed coming through with scores of 68 and 71 to finish on a total of 139 (-5). After starting on the back 9 and hitting most greens and fairways I went out in -1. With birdies on 2,4,5 and 8, they helped add up to a solid 68 that was 2 shots clear in the morning. The second round started slow with a bogey at the 1st, but with birdies at 4,5,6 and an eagle at 8 helped me go out in a total of -3. Unfortunately due to a couple of 3 putts on 9 and 11 meant that I carded a +2 coming home for a total 71. Luckily for me I had done just enough to win the tournament, capturing a title I have sought after for the last 5 years.
Thank you to all the Castle Royle members for their support, it is much appreciated and I will endeavour to represent the club well in all the National and County events this upcoming summer season.
Thanks again for reading!
