Open International de Rebetz Report

Tom started his campaign on the Alps Tour on May 1st-3rd in The Open International de Rebetz situated at Golf de Rebetz near Beauvais, France.

The week was a great experience for Tom as it was the first event and the first taste of what it is really like to be a touring professional in every sense of the word. Although the EuroPro Tour also holds its valuable lessons and experiences, nothing can compare to learning what it is like to travel across the width and breadth of Europe, tackling language barriers and cultural differences while trying to earn a living playing the sport.

The whole feel of the week was something Tom had never experienced in his golfing career before. Things such as travelling and staying with the vast majority of English players also on the tour, who he has known throughout his amateur career along with a players lounge, crowds and even people asking for autographs. The Alps Tour definitely makes an effort to make players feel comfortable and relaxed before, during and after the tournament.

Golf de Rebetz was a great golfing venue with fast greens and some lengthy holes. After getting to -1 with 4 holes to play in the 1st Round, Tom was disappointed to finished with a 73 (+1) leaving him a couple of shots outside the cut line. With a 3.15pm tee off time due to a fog delay, Tom found it tough to concentrate down the final stretch of holes, finally holing out at 8.05pm.

Round 2 presented a different set of challenges with the wind picking up and gusting over 20 mph. Tom was once again,  under par for the majority of the round but a run of 3 bogeys meant that he was fighting down the stretch to make the cut. Unfortunately a couple of mistakes on the greens led to Tom posting a 2nd round score of 74(+2) finishing 147 (+3) for the tournament and missed the cut.

There are a lot of positives to take from the week, one of the major ones being that Tom made 10 birdies in 36 holes. The emphasis must now be on limiting the mistakes while keeping up the birdie count. Once this is achieved there is no doubt he will be appearing toward the top of the leaderboard.

Tom’s next 2 events are:

MAY 9th – 11th = Gosser Open – Erzherzog GC, Graz, Austria

MAY 15th – 17th = Colli Berici Open – Colli Berici GC, Vicenza,  Italy
