On Wednesday 2nd – Friday 4th April, Tom competed in the Final Stage of EuroPro Q School at Frilford Heath Golf Club.
The tournament took place on both the Red and the Blue courses with 2 of the 3 rounds being played on the Blue. At the start of the week 240 players were entered into Final Stage with this number being reduced to 80 and ties after 36 holes.
Tom’s aim was to finish inside the top 60, giving him a category 6 and a high enough status to obtain entry to every event in the 2014 season.
After a rather mediocre score of 73 (+1) with a bogey, bogey finish after round 1 on the Red Course, Tom knew he would need a decent score on day 2 in order to make the cut. He started round 2 well, being 2 under after 9, however a quick double bogey on 14 kicked him back to level par and he knew that wouldn’t be good enough. Calling upon his experience, Tom birdied the 17th hole rolling in an 8fter and went on to hole a 5ft par putt on the last to make the cut on the number (144) shooting 71 (-1). With nothing to lose on the 3rd round, Tom started very steadily and continued to play well carding another 71 (-1) to finish T56th and obtain his desired Category 6 EuroPro Tour card.
Looking to the season ahead, Tom now has full playing rights on both the Alps Tour and the EuroPro Tour giving him two avenues onto the Challenge Tour this year. It has been a great start for Tom in his rookie season as a professional with lots of positives to draw upon.
